Job summary

General Motors is seeking an engineer to develop 1D engine simulation models using GT-POWER for varied engine architectures, including gasoline and diesel, to support early vehicle development. You will process engine data, run transient simulations, and contribute to calibration and control algorithm evaluation.

The role emphasizes modeling innovation, data-driven design decisions, and collaboration with test engineers.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics is required.
3 years of propulsion simulation and/or virtual engineering experience is required.
5 years of engineering experience is preferred.
Experience with engine dynamometer testing and data analysis is beneficial.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
Ability to handle ambiguity and develop new capabilities and standard work.

Responsibilities

Develop 1D engine simulation models in GT-POWER for gasoline and diesel engines.
Simulate full and part load models focusing on torque, power and fuel consumption.
Process lab and model data into a standardized format for analyses.
Execute transient engine simulations to support control algorithm evaluation and development (HIL/SIL).
Create MRMs/FRMs to support controls development activities.
Develop analytical techniques for engine technologies (boost devices, EGR, VVL, aftertreatment).
Distill 3D math data into 1D model geometry with proper discretization.
Collaborate with test engineers to validate results and improve procedures.
Develop post-processing and automation tools using MATLAB/Python.
Generate virtual data or calibrations for embedded engine controllers.
