Job summary

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION – 16 CARRIER BRAIDER OPERATOR POSITION

RESPONSIBILITIES: (Responsibilities listed below cover some of the significant duties performed, but do not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned.)

  • Operate multiple lines - 16 Carrier braider and pair strander.
  • Operate braiders to provide a braided covering over pair conductors.
  • Select gearing needed by using charts and written instructions.
  • Load carriers with proper supply; thread ends of braiding material through closing die.
  • Load core in payoff and thread through carrier.
  • Tie in core to take-up reel.
  • Start machine and monitor run time.
  • Replace supply spools as necessary.
  • Run machine until end is firmly meshed in braid; stop machine, cut out excess (old & new) and smooth braid coverage.
  • Acquire an understanding of the mechanics of the braiders so as to be able to replace wear items / minor repairs in most instances except a major breakdown.
  • Maintain housekeeping, 6S responsibilities / chores, and operator PM’s (preventive maintenance) in immediate area.
  • Actively participate in all plant safety, 6S, Kaizen, and lean activities / initiatives.
  • Keep machinery clean and moving surfaces properly lubricated.
  • Properly document production labor and material movements in SAP confirmations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Exceptional color perception.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Strength required to apply up to 100 lbs. of force.
  • Ability to work to 1/1000 inch tolerance.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Reading, writing, simple math are included in job responsibilities.
  • Initiative required in adjusting quality during the process and using active machine run time for completion of paperwork and housekeeping duties.
  • Understanding, communication and adherence to schedule needs (including Kanban) are critical.
EQUIPMENT USED:
  • 16 Carrier Braider, with counters, chain hoists, payoffs and takeups.
  • Various sizes of metal and wooden reels.
  • Pliers (needle-nose), wire cutters, scissors, various hand tools, micrometers.
  • Housekeeping equipment.
