Description

Summary
The individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and help them find stocked and in-date products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Know and actively demonstrate, daily, our Company Mission Statement and Core Values.
  2. Maintain uniform standard, as detailed in the Employee Manual, for all worked hours.
  3. Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, remember that the guest comes first.
  4. Empty shopping cart onto register lane as needed.
  5. Stock shelves, front and dust product, and review for out of date items.
  6. Stock beer cooler, wine cooler, coke box, freezer, and/or deli case.
  7. Remove cases and/or boxes from the sales floor (other than organized case stack displays).
  8. Break down boxes not for store use and throw them away.
  9. Keep boxes used for re-packing in organized stacks and maintain area regularly.
  10. Clean up broken items. If necessary, mop floors and put up Wet Floor signs; Cannot leave spills unattended.
  11. Sweep and mop the floor.
  12. Keep the parking lot clean of refuse (trash and other junk that doesn’t belong there).
  13. Gather shopping carts from the parking lot on a regular basis.
  14. Empty trash receptacles in store and outside as needed.
  15. Keep bathrooms clean and stocked.
  16. Keep bags well stocked at registers.
  17. Utilize proper lifting techniques.
  18. Work in accordance with all safety regulations of Specs Family Partners and OSHA.
  19. Load keg orders using keg lift if available (seek assistance as needed).
  20. Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  21. May resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  22. Suggestively sell add-on items to guests.
  23. May be asked to run a cash register as business dictates.
  24. Carry-out or dolly-out merchandise at guest request. (It is okay to accept tips, but never to request them).
  25. Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  26. Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  27. Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
  28. Other projects as assigned by management.
  29. You may have to clean the restroom.
  30. Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  31. Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  32. Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  33. Possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
  34. Manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
  35. Stand, lift, carry, walk, bend, and reach products routinely weighing 50 pounds or more. Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds or more occasionally using proper lifting techniques and tools. Push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more regularly. Communicate effectively with team members and guests. See product and signage.
  36. Attendance and timeliness are required. Shelves cannot be stocked from home.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed above satisfactorily. State law says you must be over the age of 21 to work at Spec's. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In other words, here's the technical stuff.

Education or Experience
Retail stocking experience is preferred, but willingness to learn is also valued. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, but experience can substitute.

Language Skills
Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos. Ability to communicate with coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate discounts and percentages. A calculator will be provided.

Demeanor and Personal Skills
Smiley, friendly, helpful, responsible, reliable, patient, outgoing, self-starter, with a strong work ethic. Must complete job assignments timely and look for the next task.

Hours
Full-time typically 35 hours/week, must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday, and available 80% or more of all shifts each week. Part-time is up to 25 hours/week. Working outside scheduled hours without approval is prohibited.

Reasoning Ability
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

Certificates, Licenses
Must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit, and possibly a Food Handlers Permit. The TABC course takes 2-3 hours, and the company will pay for it. The cost will be deducted from your paycheck ($8).

Physical Demands
Regularly standing, walking, bending, handling, reaching, and lifting. Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally. Push and pull 50-100 pounds regularly. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Moderate noise level, exposure to outside weather conditions, positive environment.
