Job Overview

Job Title: 12‑Month Custodian (shared between Cecilia High and Teche Elementary) | Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial | Location: Cecilia High School (shared with Teche Elementary) | Reports To: School Principal and Maintenance Supervisor | Schedule: 8‑hour day, 5 days a week, may include after‑school, evenings, nights, holidays.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform all custodial tasks as assigned by Administration.
2. Arrange furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and events.
3. Attend district in‑service training for new or improved procedures.
4. Clean school facilities (classrooms, offices, gyms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, playgrounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
5. Assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work (lawn).
6. Deliver items (supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) to appropriate locations.
7. Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns, including opening/closing buildings, providing additional security, and addressing alarms.
8. Inspect facilities for safety, cleanliness, and needed repairs; report vandalism, equipment breakage, and weather‑related issues.
9. Lift up to 30 lbs unassisted and work at heights of up to 12 feet using ladders or scaffolding.
10. Prepare facilities for daily operations (opening gates, disarming security systems, turning on lights, raising flags, placing crosswalk signs, performing minor repairs).
11. Secure school facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and liability.
12. Service equipment (vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, buffers, etc.) and replace consumables such as brushes, pads, and rollers.
13. Perform hurricane preparation (sandbags, securing playground equipment) and cleanup.
14. Assist with simple preventative maintenance for HVAC equipment.
15. Help the Special Education department evacuate students during emergency situations.

Key Requirements and Qualifications

• Certification: None required, but must meet all district employment requirements and pass a physical examination.
• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience: Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred but not required.
• Content Knowledge: Basic understanding of cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and safe use of custodial equipment and supplies.
• Skills: Ability to follow written instructions and schedules; work effectively with others; strong attention to detail; maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment; arrange furniture and equipment for school activities and events; commitment to minimizing property damage, loss, and safety risks.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand or walk for up to 6½‑7 hours in a typical workday. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs unassisted; occasionally up to 75 lbs. Ability to work at heights of up to 12 feet. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, work at heights, push or pull equipment, and perform routine cleaning tasks for the duration of an eight‑hour shift.

Work Environment

The custodian works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including high heat and humidity during summer, and low temperatures in winter as required.
