Job summary

THOM Thomas Hospitals in West Virginia is seeking a professional Phlebotomist to join the clinical labs team. You will collect blood samples from patients of all ages, label specimens accurately, and operate basic lab equipment to support diagnostic testing.

Responsibilities include communicating with patients and staff, performing clerical duties, and, when required, collecting drug screens via Chain of Custody procedures. This role is on-site with varied shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) preferred.
• Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience.

Responsibilities

• Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with as little patient discomfort as possible for patient groups from neonates to geriatrics.
• Properly labels all specimens in the presence of the patient.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, computer systems, labeling printers, scanners, phone system, etc.).
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, clients, and staff.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
• If applicable, collect drug screens (internal and external) using Chain of Custody Process.

Responsible for blood and blood culture collection; non-blood specimen collection including urine, sputum, semen samples, throat swabs; chain of custody specimen collection. Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
