Job summary

Green Park Elementary in Walla Walla, WA is seeking a Special Education 1:1 Para-Educator for the REACH Room. This full-time role supports certificated staff and serves students with IEP needs, helping with reading, writing, math and social/behavior development.

The para-educator assists with behavior management, basic care tasks, and collaboration with teachers to track student progress. A high school diploma andPara-educator eligibility are required; bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• AA Degree, 72 college level credits, or ability to pass the Federal Para-Educator test.
• Experience working with students in an educational setting or interest in supporting learning experiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support for IEP students by attending to reading, writing, math and social/behavior skills.
• Provide support and structure for students needing behavior and social skills support.
• Assist students in developing functional skills leading to independence.
• Implement and reinforce social skills training programs.
• Assist with supporting personal care needs, including toileting and feeding.
• Assist certificated staff with required record-keeping, development of materials and preparation of teaching aids.
• Learn instructional techniques under the direction of a teacher and independently carry out instructional programs developed by the supervising teacher.
• Collaboratively work with classroom teachers.
• Assist in assessing students.
• Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress in the classroom and other school activities.
• Promote positive public relations when communicating with the public.
