Job summary

Two years’ experience with students is required, with preference for special education experience. Wisconsin SPED certification and CPI certification are required before or after placement. Physical stamina and lifting up to 50 pounds are essential.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in working with students; higher preference for those with experience with students who require Special Education programming.
• State of Wisconsin, Special Education certification is required prior or after placement in the position; CPI certification is required prior or after placement.
• Must have physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to stand, walk, reach, and assist in classroom activities.

Responsibilities

• Primary responsibility is working with special education student(s) based on the needs outlined in the IEP; assist other students when feasible.
• Provide information to teachers for instruction/reinstruction and support learning styles.
• Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
• Anticipate and intervene to stop potentially dangerous or injurious behaviors; assist with seclusion and de-escalation per IEP.
• Assist with promoting student participation in classroom activities; provide support for personal and health care needs.
• Supervise students during arrival, breakfast, lunch, recess, bus loading, and emergencies.
