Job summary

Federal Way Public Schools in Washington is seeking a 1:1 Paraeducator for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at Illahee Middle School. The role requires fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) to support a D/HH scholar in both D/HH and mainstream classrooms.

The paraeducator works under the supervision of a certified teacher and DHH case manager, assisting with IEP goals, data collection, behavior planning, and daily living skills while fostering a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• AA degree, OR 48 college-level credits or 72 quarter credits, OR pass the paraeducator assessment test.
• Experience or training in language development related to reading instruction, remediation, and assessment

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementation and evaluation of IEP goals and objectives.
• Support daily instruction of the assigned student and group activities.
• Plan daily/weekly lessons based on IEP goals and objectives and maintain data for program effectiveness.
• Provide staff with essential information to meet IEP goals and objectives.
• Assist in developing and implementing behavior plans for the student.
• Support teaching of daily living skills, communication, and classroom routines.
• Assist with student transitions such as arrival, dismissal, and activities.
• Assist with transfers for students in wheelchairs using appropriate equipment.
