Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage shipping schedules for current and upcoming deliveries.
• Coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities to support production.
• Collaborate with Production Managers, Project Managers, and yard staff.
• Arrange inbound/outbound freight and optimize transportation costs.
• Obtain competitive freight pricing while maintaining service levels.
• Monitor shipment status and communicate updates and delays.
• Ensure proof of delivery documentation is complete.
• Build relationships with carriers, freight providers, and customers.
• Coordinate loading schedules and transportation resources.
• Assist with resolving shipment issues and challenges.
• Support continuous improvement in logistics and shipping efficiency.
• Assist with truck loading when needed.

Position Summary

Waukegan Steel is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Logistics Coordinator to support our shipping and receiving operations. This role is responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound freight, maintaining shipping schedules, managing transportation costs, and ensuring on-time delivery of fabricated steel products to our customers.

The Logistics Coordinator will work closely with production, project management, yard operations, and transportation providers to ensure shipments are executed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. This position plays an important role in supporting customer satisfaction while maintaining shipping budgets and operational excellence.

Essential Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage shipping schedules for current and upcoming customer deliveries.
• Coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities to support production and customer requirements.
• Work collaboratively with Production Managers, Project Managers, Yard Loaders, and other operational personnel.
• Arrange inbound and outbound freight transportation safely and efficiently.
• Obtain competitive freight pricing while maintaining high service levels and adhering to transportation budgets.
• Monitor shipment status and proactively communicate updates regarding pickups, deliveries, and potential delays.
• Obtain and maintain proof of delivery documentation.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with carriers, freight providers, and customers.
• Coordinate loading schedules and transportation resources to ensure timely deliveries.
• Assist with resolving shipment issues and transportation challenges.
• Support continuous improvement efforts related to logistics, transportation, and shipping efficiency.
• Assist with loading trucks when operational needs require.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field preferred.
• 1 to 2 years of experience in logistics, transportation coordination, shipping, receiving, or manufacturing operations.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience within the steel fabrication, structural steel, or metals industry is a plus.
• ERP system experience is preferred.
