The job of a Certificated Guest (Substitute) Teacher is to facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Essential Functions
  • Teach to district approved course goals and objectives.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified by state law and administrative regulations of the school district.
  • Provide individual and group instruction so that each pupil can achieve scholastic educational objectives.
  • Use instructional materials suitable for the instruction of pupils with wide ranges of mental, physical, and emotional maturation.
  • Maintain standard of pupil behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities.
  • Maintain records as required or appropriate.
  • Subscribe to the notion "student success is a teacher's paramount responsibility".
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Functions
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: controlling and motivating students; maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications; adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment.

KNOWLEDGE is required of best professional practices in math. Must be able to perform algebra and/or geometry; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to perform satisfactorily the functions of the job includes: knowledge of state and federal laws that govern school districts, age appropriate activities, stages of child development, and safety practices and procedures.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work independently or with others in a wide variety of circumstances; to work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and to operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; to work with similar types of data; and to utilize specific, job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: fostering positive relationships; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job’s functions. There is continual opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
