Job summary

Koç University Information Technology Directorate seeks a System Administration Senior Specialist to manage and optimize university IT services. You will maintain Windows/Linux servers, virtualization platforms and cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure, with focus on reliability and security.

Job description

Koç University Information Technology Directorate is seeking a System Administration Senior Specialist who will be primarily responsible for the University’s IT services.

Manage, monitor, analyze and maintain Windows/Linux servers and virtualization platforms

Manage, monitor and analyze cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure

Install and configure operating systems, plan infrastructure capacity, improve performance and ensure the continuity of daily operations

Install physical and virtual servers and storage systems

Manage backup and restore operations for storage systems integrated with SAN/NAS infrastructure or servers

Monitor and maintain enterprise disk storage systems

Monitor servers and system performance; create, edit and manage alarms in monitoring tools; and perform user and alarm management

Ensure the continuity of hardware infrastructure, operating systems, applications and containers to provide uninterrupted service

Work with system users and vendor support teams to resolve software and hardware issues

Develop, maintain and regularly update disaster-recovery strategies and procedures

Maintain the security of computing environments and follow new features and current issues to support patch management

Contribute to defining and achieving the Engineering unit’s daily, weekly and monthly objectives

Evaluate current methods and trends in Windows and VMware platforms and implement those appropriate for the environment

Set up and manage disaster-recovery hardware and software environments

Install and test operating system patches and upgrades in accordance with change-management procedures

Prepare documentation for operating system patches and upgrades and coordinate implementation with other system administrators

Support out-of-scope enterprise applications such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace and work with vendors to resolve issues

Communicate with vendors and business owners regarding enhancements and updates as required

Perform other assigned system-administration duties

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in information systems or a related field

At least six years of experience in system administration or a related field

An equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills and competencies

Ability to translate user requests into technical requirements and provide technical support, documentation and training

Ability to work independently on assigned projects and build effective working relationships with IT and business teams at different levels

Proficiency in the use and administration of computers, Microsoft Office applications and related software

Comprehensive knowledge of performance monitoring, system testing, software patch installation and testing, data security, backup, recovery and restart procedures

Experience installing, maintaining, monitoring and performance-tuning enterprise servers and medium- to large-scale Windows Server 2016/2019, Linux and VMware vSphere environments

Knowledge of DNS, LDAP directory services, web servers and standard networking protocols

Knowledge of the physical and logical structure of Windows Server file systems, operating system upgrades and patch management

Ability to use PowerShell and Windows Server scripting tools to automate centralized tasks

Proficiency in Linux (Debian- and Red Hat-based distributions) and Windows Server environments

Knowledge of AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure management is preferred

DevOps experience is a strong advantage

Advanced understanding of services such as Apache, Nginx, MySQL, Postfix and BIND

Experience with monitoring and metrics platforms such as PRTG, Cacti and Prometheus is a strong advantage

Experience with virtualization and container technologies such as VMware, Hyper‑V, OpenStack and Kubernetes

Experience in server hardware installation, administration and maintenance

Experience with Microsoft System Center Datacenter products

Familiarity with SAN and storage systems

Familiarity with software‑defined systems

Knowledge of high‑availability and load‑balancing architectures

Familiarity with load‑balancing platforms such as F5 and Nginx Enterprise

Excellent written and spoken English

Strong analytical, problem‑solving and effort‑estimation skills

Strong teamwork and time‑management skills
