Job summary

Preferred by Nature seeks a Local Forestry and Stakeholder Consultant to support its work in the Turkish forestry sector, based in Türkiye.

The role is a part-time consultancy (approximately six months, 1–2 days per week) with fees arranged by agreement. You will advise on rules, engage with authorities and stakeholders, and help organize webinars and meetings in Turkish and English.

Qualifications

• Native Turkish speaker with good working proficiency in English.
• Proven ability to operate effectively within public institutions and politically sensitive environments.
• Strong understanding of forestry related rules and protocols.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with relevant key stakeholders.
• Good knowledge of the Turkish forestry sector, its institutional structure and forest management practises.
• Strong and relevant professional network, relevant to the assignment.
• Relevant background in public affairs, stakeholder engagement, forestry, natural resources, environmental management, sustainability or a related field.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to work independently, discreetly and confidentially.
• Knowledge of forest certification schemes is an advantage.
• Brief overview of relevant institutional and sector developments, priorities and trends.

Responsibilities

• Advise on forestry related rules and protocols (including public procurement ones).
• Support engagement with national and regional forestry authorities and other public institutions.
• Identify relevant forestry, environmental and social stakeholders, including universities, NGOs, experts and representative organisations.
• Provide insight into the institutional structure, priorities and current developments of the Turkish forestry sector.
• Facilitate introductions, meetings and follow-up communication.
• Help establish and maintain trusted professional relationships with key stakeholders.
• Provide updates on emerging trends, policy developments, opportunities, risks and stakeholder priorities.
• Review Turkish-language correspondence and communication materials.
• Help organize a webinar and deliver presentations prepared by Preferred by Nature (in Turkish language).
• Interpretation or translation where relevant.
• Participate in regular coordination calls and provide brief progress updates.

What can you expect:

Support Preferred by Nature in understanding the Turkish institutional and stakeholder landscape, building trusted relationships with relevant key actors, and providing the local sector knowledge needed to support our activities in the Turkish forestry sector.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Advise on forestry related rules and protocols (including public procurement ones).

Area of work:

Based in Türkiye, with very occasional domestic travel.

Job Type:

Part-time consultancy for approximately six months (1-2 days a week), held in English. Workload, fees and practical arrangements to be agreed with the selected consultant.

Contract Duration:

Approximately six months.
