Job summary

Canonical's Device Delivery Team delivers OEM enablement projects by pre-loading Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Core for tier-1 OEM/ODM partners. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead the software engineering team to drive delivery, quality, and on-time commitments in a fast-paced, globally distributed setting.

You will recruit and mentor engineers, set goals, coordinate with PMs, QA, HWE, and certification, and travel internationally to engage with OEMs and SiPs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or higher in STEM, preferably CS or software engineering.
• Proven Linux engineering experience in environments like Ubuntu or Debian.
• Strong focus on development methodologies and code quality.
• Experience with team management and delivery in fast-paced projects.
• Ability to work across globally distributed teams and cultures.
• Strong English and Chinese communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, motivate, mentor, and enable your team to deliver quality products.
• Set goals with the team; prioritize tasks and measure health indicators.
• Maximise team performance and support career growth.
• Coordinate with project managers, HWE, QA and certification management.
• Monitor projects from kickoff to post-mortem and handle escalations.
• Communicate, understand, and resolve the technical challenge with OEMs, ODMs, SiPs, IHVs.
• Prioritize customer requests globally.
• Collaborate with product engineering teams (Desktop, Foundations, Kernel, and Security).
• Provide leadership for methodologies, standards, tools, and best practices.
• Must be able to travel to the EU, USA, China, and Taiwan; (after covid-19 restrictions lift)
