Job summary

Canonical, the sponsor of Ubuntu, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on package management and system lifecycle technologies across the Ubuntu platform. You will shape engineering direction while supporting the growth of experienced engineers, spanning Linux distribution tooling, updates, upgrades, drivers, firmware, and release processes.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Experience designing or operating Linux distribution technologies.
  • Proven leadership of engineering teams and product delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Define the technical vision and roadmap for package management and system lifecycle technologies.
  • Participate in design reviews and guide key technical decisions across infrastructure.
  • Promote high standards for performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering ownership and collaboration.
  • Drive cross-functional partnerships across desktop, server, release engineering, and product teams.
  • Collaborate with Debian/Ubuntu/open source communities to evolve infrastructure.
