Job summary

Director of Studies at Dusemond will lead our academic team across multiple summer school centres in the UK, ensuring high-quality EFL lessons, strong CPD for teachers, and effective collaboration with Group Leaders and centre staff.

You will observe lessons, develop CPD plans, and mentor teachers to foster language development, cultural understanding, and personal growth among international students.

Qualifications

• First degree is required.
• Cambridge DELTA, Trinity LTCL Diploma TESOL or MA in Linguistics/TESOL preferred.
• Minimum 3 years’ EFL teaching experience with international young learners/teens.
• Enhanced DBS check is required.
• Customer-facing experience and people management experience are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support a team of teachers, ensuring clear timetables and course delivery.
• Lead CPD sessions at the centre and other centres as needed.
• Perform observations and follow up with development points.
• Coordinate with Group Leaders and Centre Manager for smooth operations.
• Oversee administrative tasks such as class lists and database maintenance.

As Director of Studies, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our EFL Teachers deliver exceptional lessons that foster language development, cultural understanding, and personal growth. As the face of our Academic programme, you will ensure our Group Leaders and students are always satisfied with the quality of our lessons – and that students return home with amazing memories and fantastic projects to share with their loved ones. To achieve this, you will perform observations and develop relevant CPD sessions for your academic team, always striving to foster an atmosphere of collaboration and reflective practice. This role really tested my administrative skills and pushed me to be far more conscious of the logistics behind running a team and educating large numbers of international students. Although I was no longer in the classroom, it was so satisfying to see the academic programme delivered successfully and see the strength of the relationships that were forged between the students and our teaching team. • Communicate a clear timetable for each two week turn
• Create class lists using the software provided and teachers appropriately two days before the course begins.
• As a TEFLQ DOS, you may be required to lead CPD sessions at other centres
• Use your Senior Teacher effectively in delivering the above
• Act as a bridge between your team and the Group Leaders who accompany our students during each programme.
• Perform observations and act on development points via CPD sessions

AdministrationIt is essential that our database is maintained with accurate class lists and levels at all times. Being technologically literate is absolutely essential in this role.You’ll Be Expected To:

• Construct and edit class lists as necessary
• Ensure level moves, behavioural issues and teachers notes are updated on our database. Head office should be able to understand exactly what each student has done throughout their stay.
• Use the database to process certificate and report printing

Group LeadersOur clients, the Group Leaders, have very high expectations of our academic programme and it is your responsibility to ensure these expectations are met.You should always be open to listening to and acting on feedback, hold meetings with the GLs as necessary and participate in their social programme.Operational SupportAs one of the senior managers, you should assist the rest of the team as and when necessary even if this falls outside academics – supporting the Centre Manager on the busy arrival days, for example.You should also attend regular meetings with the management team to ensure the safe and efficient running of the centreGraduation CeremoniesAs the face of the academic programme, you should organise and host the certificate ceremonies when groups leave.Excursion Mania & LLETeachers will deliver twice weekly “excursion mania” sessions in the evening – you will help organise these alongside the Activity Manager.Beyond this you will also co ordinate the effective delivery of our new LLE lessons ( Local Learning Excursions ).Community and Pastoral CareAll staff have a responsibility for creating a positive, welcoming environment for the students, and should always report any safeguarding or safety issues as necessary.Your eligibilityYou Must:

• be over 18 years of age
• be eligible to work in the UK
• First degree (any discipline)
