Job summary

Genesis HealthCare System in the United States seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform, evaluate and report results on blood and body fluid specimens. The role requires a Bachelor's degree and MLS/ASCP certification options, with strong attention to accuracy and compliance.

You'll maintain specimen integrity, troubleshoot instruments, record test results in the LIS, and support phlebotomy and related duties while upholding patient confidentiality and exceptional service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Completion of an accredited MLS program, MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification or registry eligible, or education/experience equivalent to MLS (ASCP).
• MLT to MLS: 2+ years as Medical Laboratory Technician, bachelor's degree, and MLS (ASCP) certification.
• Laboratory Assistant to MLS: 2+ years as Laboratory Assistant, bachelor’s degree, and one of the ASCP specialties (Chemistry, Blood Banking, Hematology, Microbiology).
• Entry-level experience in a clinical laboratory or hospital rotation.
• Excellent interpersonal, decision-making, and investigative skills.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to provide outstanding customer service and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform, evaluate and submit results on blood and body fluid specimens received for laboratory analysis.
• Maintain knowledge of laboratory tests and processes; ensure specimen integrity per test requirements.
• Troubleshoot instrument performance and comply with quality control requirements.
• Keep accurate records, including release and reporting of results via the LIS.
• May assist in phlebotomy, CPA, and telecommunications.
• Maintain compliance with CAP, HFAP, OSHA, and HIPAA.
• Provide outstanding customer service and maintain confidentiality.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and under pressure.
