Job summary

UPM Türkiye is seeking an Automation Engineer in Istanbul to maintain and develop our automation systems that support manufacturing operations. You will collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to ensure a safe, efficient, high‑performing environment.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in Automation/Electrical/Mechatronics, at least 5 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, and strong Siemens PLC/TIA Portal/WinCC skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Automation/Electrical/Mechatronics or related field.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation.
• Hands-on Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting (Step 7, TIA Portal).
• Experience with Siemens WinCC HMI systems and industrial networks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and develop Siemens PLC and HMI systems (Step 7, TIA Portal and WinCC).
• Diagnose and resolve automation faults to minimize downtime on production lines.
• Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance to improve equipment reliability.
• Collaborate with local and international colleagues to identify process improvements.
• Support automation projects, upgrades, and new equipment installations.
• Maintain documentation, software backups, and change records for automation systems.
• Provide training and guidance to maintenance technicians and operators when required.

What you will do

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and develop Siemens PLC and HMI systems (Step 7, TIA Portal and WinCC)
• Diagnose and resolve automation, control system, and field instrumentation faults to minimize production downtime on labelstock slitting, rewinding and packing machinery
• Coordinate and participate in preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability
• Collaborate with local and international colleagues to identify and implement process improvements
• Support automation-related projects, upgrades, and new equipment installations
• Maintain technical documentation, software backups, and change management records for automation systems
• Provide technical support, training and guidance to maintenance technicians and operators when required

Who you are

• You have bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
• You have at least 5 years of experience in Automation Engineering or related field
• You have experience in industrial automation maintenance within a manufacturing environment
• You have hands‑on knowledge of Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting, particularly Step 7 and TIA Portal
• You have experience with Siemens WinCC HMI systems and industrial communication networks
• You have strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a structured approach to troubleshooting
• You are comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• You are proactive, safety‑conscious, and committed to continuous improvement
• You have good communication skills in English
• Experience with web handling, converting, slitting, packaging, or process industries is considered an advantage
• Knowledge of drives, motor control systems, industrial networks, and instrumentation is considered an advantage
