Job summary

The Japan Research Institute, Limited (Singapore Branch) seeks a Vice President, Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance on structuring, negotiating, and executing complex financial transactions. You will partner with external counsel and coordinate with internal teams across the Asia Pacific region to manage legal risk and ensure compliance.

You will act as a trusted advisor to the Bank’s business, reviewing agreements, documents, and onboarding terms, while advising on regulatory

Qualifications

• A good law degree from a recognized university and admitted to practice in a common law jurisdiction (e.g. Singapore, UK).
• Experience advising on complex financial transactions and regulatory matters is preferred.
• Proven ability to manage cross-border transactions and coordinate with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Providing legal support and advice on structuring, negotiation and execution of transactions undertaken by the Bank.
• Transactional support and partnering with external counsel; manage legal risks.
• Serve as trusted legal advisor to the Bank's business and collaborate with Front Office, Compliance, Risk, Credit and Operations teams.
• Advise on legal aspects of credit and lending, litigation, and other sensitive matters; draft and maintain agreements and templates.
• Review NDAs, mandate letters, loan trading documents, and customer onboarding terms for the Bank; negotiate on behalf of the Bank.
• Coordinate with Compliance and other internal stakeholders on implementation of laws and regulations across APAC.
