Job summary

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Asia Pacific is seeking a VP/Director of Data Framework Engineering to lead the design, development, and lifecycle management of reusable data engineering frameworks supporting the bank's enterprise data ecosystem.

The role requires 12+ years in enterprise data engineering, deep expertise with Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark, and cloud-native services, and proven leadership of regional engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or related discipline.
• 12+ years of experience in enterprise data engineering or large-scale data transformation programs.
• Proven design and development of enterprise-scale data engineering frameworks.
• Experience building reusable frameworks to improve delivery speed and platform consistency.
• Experience with metadata-driven and manifest-driven architectures at enterprise scale.
• Expertise in Databricks, Delta Lake, Spark, Unity Catalog, and cloud-native data services.
• Hands-on experience with ingestion, transformation, serving, data quality, reconciliation, orchestration, and monitoring frameworks.
• Ability to onboard hundreds of source systems and support thousands of data pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of distributed processing, Spark optimization, and large-scale data ops.
• Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, automated testing, and observability.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Spark, PySpark, Git; familiarity with Collibra and data governance.
• Experience enabling self-service analytics, semantic layers, Power BI integration, and data product architectures.
• Banking/financial services domain knowledge across Risk, Finance, Treasury, Regulatory Reporting, and related areas is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the strategic roadmap for enterprise data engineering frameworks across the bank-wide Data Lakehouse.
• Lead design, development, and lifecycle management of reusable frameworks for ingestion, transformation, serving, orchestration, quality, and lineage.
• Establish standards for metadata-driven development and accelerated source onboarding.
• Develop standardized ingestion capabilities for batch, streaming, CDC, API, and real-time patterns.
• Build reusable transformation frameworks for Bronze–Gold layers with configurable rules.
• Define framework standards for SCD types, reference data, and master data integration.
• Create enterprise data quality, reconciliation, and observability frameworks.
• Develop data serving frameworks for data products, APIs, Delta Sharing, and Power BI reporting.
• Drive automation, CI/CD, IaC, automated testing, and AI-assisted development to boost productivity.
• Measure KPIs on onboarding speed, code reuse, deployment frequency, and platform reliability.
• Lead regional and offshore engineering teams across Data Engineering, Analytics, AI, Risk, Finance, and Regulatory initiatives.
