Job summary

The Great Eastern Life Assurance Company Limited is seeking an experienced underwriter to support the underwriting team in liaising with reinsurers, auditing processes, and internal quality assurance. The role covers underwriting for individual Life, Accident and Health lines and requires senior-level expertise in risk assessment and decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Degree with at least 10 years’ underwriting experience (Life, Accident, Health)
  • Non-degree candidates with underwriting experience or certification may be considered

Responsibilities

  • Support underwriting team with reinsurers on guidelines, campaigns, and audits
  • Coordinate internal QA and review compliance with underwriting guidelines
  • Underwrite new life, health, long-term care and high net worth applications
  • Countersign and guide underwriters; provide training for distribution channels
  • Maintain KPI achievement and monitor regulatory risk controls
  • Develop relationships with reinsurers to facilitate communication
  • Identify and mitigate underwriting risks by case reviews
  • Keep abreast of regulatory trends and risk management best practices

Job description

Job Purpose

You are required to provide support to the Underwriting Team that involves liaising with reinsurers on underwriting guidelines, campaigns, and audit, and to co-ordinate and facilitate internal quality assurance. You are also required to provide underwriting support for all individual product lines in New Business Underwriting.

Job Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development and refinement of underwriting policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure compliance with established underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with reinsurers to develop and implement underwriting campaigns
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with reinsurers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with underwriting decisions through the review of pending cases.
  • Underwrite new applications for life, health, long term care and high net worth proposals.
  • Countersign and provide guidance to underwriters.
  • Conduct underwriting training for distribution channels.
  • Ensure department KPI are achieved.
  • Take accountability in considering business and regulatory compliance risks and takes appropriate steps to mitigate the risks;
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and appropriate steps to mitigate the risks; and
  • Highlight any potential concerns/risks and proactively shares best risk management practices.
Requirements
  • Degree with at least 10 years’ experience in underwriting Life, Accident and Health risks;
  • Non-degree holders who have relevant experience or certification in underwriting may be considered;
  • Leadership ability and a team player;
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work under pressure;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • High level of integrity, takes accountability of work and good attitude over teamwork; and
  • Takes initiative to improve current state of things and adaptable to embrace new changes.
