Job summary

Tokio Marine Insurance Singapore Ltd. is seeking an experienced underwriter to manage commercial and specialty risks. The role involves assessing, negotiating terms and pricing, and ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines across group entities.

The successful candidate will review referrals, provide technical support, and drive strategies for complex cases while collaborating with the Group Head Office in Japan. Strong English and Japanese communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• University Degree, preferably with professional insurance qualifications.
• At least 10 years in general insurance with minimum 5 years underwriting experience in commercial, specialty, or corporate lines.
• Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, portfolio management and commercial insurance business.
• Experience evaluating complex commercial risks, large exposures or accumulation risks is advantageous.
• Experience in specialty underwriting, financial risk solutions, trade-related insurance or reinsurance would be an advantage.
• Analytical with good report writing, presentation and communication skills in English and Japanese.
• Good understanding of Japanese business practices and experience with Japanese clients is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve special acceptances and underwriting referrals from group companies and provide technical support.
• Review underwriting practices to ensure consistency with Group underwriting standards.
• Coordinate with the Company, group companies and stakeholders to develop underwriting and business strategies for complex cases.
• Provide training and technical guidance to underwriting and sales staff within the Company and group companies.
• Collaborate with Group Head Office in Japan to establish underwriting policies and share progress.
• Support intra-group underwriting and reinsurance-related matters as needed.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, brokers and internal stakeholders to support growth and retention.
• Monitor portfolio performance and risk exposures and provide recommendations for sustainable underwriting results.
• Provide support to ensure alignment with Group underwriting policies and business strategies.

2. Review and approve special acceptances and underwriting referrals from group companies and provide technical underwriting support where necessary.
3. Conduct reviews of underwriting practices within the Company and group companies to ensure consistency and alignment with Group underwriting standards.
4. Support coordination among the Company, group companies, and stakeholders to develop underwriting and business strategies for complex cases.
5. Conduct training and provide technical guidance to underwriting and sales staff within the Company and other group companies.
6. Work closely with the Group Head Office in Japan to establish and execute underwriting policies and share information on business progress and underwriting matters.
7. Support the management of intra-group underwriting and reinsurance-related matters, where necessary.
8. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, business partners, and internal stakeholders to support business growth and retention.

10. Provide any other support required to ensure alignment with Group underwriting policies and business strategies.

Job Requirements

1. University Degree, preferably with professional insurance or related qualifications.
2. At least 10 years of experience in the general insurance industry, including a minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in commercial, specialty, or corporate insurance lines
3. Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment, portfolio management, and commercial insurance business.
4. Experience in evaluating complex commercial risks, large exposures, or accumulation risks would be advantageous.
5. Experience in specialty underwriting, financial risk solutions, trade-related insurance, reinsurance, or other commercial underwriting disciplines would be an advantage.
6. Analytical with good report writing, presentation, and communication skills in both English and Japanese.
7. Good understanding of Japanese business practices and experience in working with Japanese corporate clients would be advantageous.
