HSBC Life Singapore is seeking a high-calibre professional to join our underwriting team as Vice President, High-net-worth (HNW) Underwriting. You will lead medical, financial and risk assessments for ultra-high-net-worth clients and manage complex cases.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement within a global bank, with opportunities to influence product development and drive underwriting excellence across the Asia-Pacific region.

Qualifications

• Strong underwriting experience in life, disability and critical illness insurance with high-net-worth focus.
• University degree or equivalent professional insurance designation preferred (ALU, FALU).
• Proven ability to manage complex cases and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong understanding of medical, non-medical and financial principles and practices.
• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct medical, financial and compliance assessment in accordance with underwriting guidelines and risk framework.
• Manage referrals to ensure optimal capacity for ultra large risks and oversee exposure with reinsurers.
• Build relationships with partners to resolve complex underwriting queries related to risk selection.
• Support training and development of junior underwriters and contribute to QA audits.
• Review and refine medical, financial and residency guidelines to maintain market competitiveness.
• Provide underwriting insights for new product development and company initiatives.
• Identify and implement process improvements to streamline workflows.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Vice President, High-net-worth (HNW) Underwriting.

In this role you will:

• Conduct medical, financial and compliance assessment in accordance with the company’s underwriting guidelines and risk framework, adhering to delegated authority limits and service level agreements
• Manage the referral process to ensure optimal capacity for ultra large risks, including overseeing the total exposure with reinsurers
• Build and maintain strong relationships with partners to collaboratively resolve complex underwriting queries related to risk selection
• Support the training and development of junior underwriters, including contributing to internal quality assurance audits to maintain consistent underwriting standards
• Review and refine medical, financial and residency guidelines to ensure continued market competitiveness
• Provides underwriting expertise and insights for new product development and broader company initiatives review
• Identify and implement process improvement to streamline internal workflow and enhance operational efficiency

To be successful you will need:

• Strong underwriting experience in life, disability and critical illness insurance with experiences specialising in High-net-worth
• University Degree or equivalent professional insurance designation preferred (e.g. ALU, FALU)
• Proven ability to manage complex cases and make sound decisions under pressure
• Strong understanding of medical, non-medical and financial principles and practices
• Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
