Job summary

Upper Spring Consulting Pte. Ltd. is seeking an experienced Vessel IT Engineer to manage, support, and upgrade on-board IT infrastructure across our fleet. The role includes remote support for crew and on-board assistance when required.

You will work in a multicultural IT department, expanding knowledge in IT, telecommunication, and cyber security while ensuring system reliability on vessels in operation.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of relevant IT experience on ships or vessels.
• Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience with cyber security solutions is preferred.
• Knowledge of ships automation systems is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in remote vessels and under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide remote support for vessels, crew and on-board support.
• Install, maintain, and optimize IT systems, including networks, communication systems, servers, and workstations.
• Participate in design, implementation and improvement of vessels' IT infrastructure.
• Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
• Perform system and network updates/remupdates remotely or on-board.
• Liaise with vendors and IT personnel for resolutions or new tasks.
• Maintain IT security, system and backup solutions.
• Be the L1 helpdesk contact and on-call rotations.
• Boarding of vessels for audits and ad-hoc works as needed.

Job description

We are representing our client in the marine sector to look an experienced vessel IT engineer.The Vessel IT Engineer will be a part of IT Department and is responsible for managing, supporting, maintaining and upgrading the on-board IT infrastructure of the vessels.

The successful candidate will provide remote IT support, and when required on-board support on our vessels. The position offers development in ITknowledge, tele-communication and cyber security skills in a multicultural environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide remote support for vessels, crew and on-board support (when needed).
• Install, maintain, and optimize existing IT systems, including networks, communication systems (satellite, radio, etc.), servers, network and workstations.
• Participate in the design, implementation and improvement of our vessels' IT infrastructure.
• Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
• Perform system and network updates/upgrades remotely or onboard vessels.
• Liaise with vendors, email providers and other IT personnel for problem resolution or when new tasks are needed.
• Maintain IT security, system and backup solutions.
• Be the contact point on L1 helpdesk escalations and resolve accordingly.
• Provide out-of-business hours/weekend support as part of an on-call rotation.
• Boarding of vessels for audits and other ad-hoc works as and when needed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent with 2 - 5 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and Applications (Office 365, MS Windows server, Windows 10, Hyper‑V, Active Directory), Antivirus, network switches, UPS, firewalls, storage/backup and replication systems (Certifications will be considered a plus).
• Experience of implementing and support cyber security solutions is preferred.
• Knowledge of hardware troubleshooting, data cabling and WiFi infrastructure.
• Knowledge of ships automation systems will be a plus.
• Ambitious, self‑motivated, fast learner with can‑do attitude and a genuine interest in all aspects of IT Support.
• Ability to multi‑task, work well under pressure and flexibility to work prolonged hours.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to quickly address and resolve issues in high‑pressure environments.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proactive and forward thinking.
• Ability to work independently in remote locations with limited access to support.
• Good team player to effectively work with diverse teams.
