Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

The UX Researcher leads user research across the end-to-end lifecycle of digital government products and services—from discovery through delivery and continuous improvement. The role focuses on uncovering user needs and pain points, translating insights into clear, actionable recommendations for product and design decisions, and ensuring teams build the right thing with evidence. You will work closely with product, design, engineering, and operations stakeholders, while applying strong research governance (e.g., consent, data protection) and supporting inclusive, accessible service outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct user research (interviews, usability testing, field studies) to uncover user needs and pain points
• Translate insights into service journeys, personas, problem statements, and actionable recommendations for product and delivery teams
• Facilitate co-design workshops with stakeholders to shape service concepts, prototypes, and end-to-end service blueprints

Preferred Skills

• Minimum 5 years of UX research experience, with evidence of influencing product/ service decisions and improving outcomes through research
• Strong capability across qualitative methods (interviews, field research, synthesis) and usability testing, including writing discussion guides and producing actionable outputs
• Demonstrated strength in synthesis and storytelling—turning messy inputs into structured insights, principles, and prioritised recommendations
• Experience working in agile / product delivery teams, collaborating closely with design and engineering from discovery to release and iteration
• Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design considerations, and evaluating experiences for diverse user groups and contexts
• Advantage: experience in government/public sector or regulated environments with multi-stakeholder needs and governance constraints
• Advantage: comfort working on complex services and workflows (not just UI), including cross-channel journeys and operational handoffs
• Strong communication and stakeholder management—able to align teams, manage expectations, and explain research implications and trade-offs clearly
