Job summary

Percept Solutions is seeking an experienced L3 System Engineer to own complex incidents across hosting, compute, storage and virtualization in a mission-critical data centre. You will drive restoration, perform root-cause analyses and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.

The role requires 6+ years in systems engineering with VMware vSphere, Windows/Linux administration, enterprise storage, scripting and ITIL familiarity, with on-call rotation in a 24x7 environment.

Job description

We are seeking a hands-on L3 System Engineer to support hosting, compute, storage and virtualization platforms in a mission-critical data centre environment. You will take ownership of complex incidents, restore services, and improve the reliability of the infrastructure through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and resolve L3 incidents involving physical servers, storage arrays, management controllers and virtual infrastructure.
• Administer VMware vSphere/vCenter or Microsoft Hyper-V, including hypervisors, clusters and management platforms.
• Manage Windows and Linux server configuration, hardening, patching and upgrades.
• Provide infrastructure-level support for SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL, including availability, backup and performance issues.
• Maintain backup and recovery platforms, and support disaster recovery and business continuity testing.
• Lead root-cause analysis for P1/P2 incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain technical documentation, runbooks and configuration records.
• Participate as a primary or secondary escalation contact in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Requirements:

• At least 6 years of experience in systems, hosting or virtualization engineering, including ownership of L3 incidents.
• Hands-on experience administering VMware vSphere/vCenter; VMware VCP certification preferred.
• Strong Windows Server or Linux administration skills. Microsoft, RHCE or LFCS certification is an advantage.
• Experience with enterprise storage such as NetApp, Dell EMC or Pure Storage, and backup platforms such as Veeam, Commvault or NetBackup.
• Scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• Familiarity with formal incident and change management processes; ITIL Foundation certification preferred.
• Availability for a 24x7 on-call rotation.
