Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join the Security Search and Observability organization for APJ. You will lead threat modelling, run vulnerability assessments with agents, and guide remediation while engaging with customers and partners to improve AWS security offerings across cloud and AI workloads.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship experience troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating tasks with command line tools.

• Knowledge of at least two of Scala, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for an experienced Senior Security Engineer to join the Security Search and Observability organization. Our team builds and operates the detection, correlation, and vulnerability-management capabilities behind multiple security services such as AWS Security Hub, AWS CloudTrail, AWS GuardDuty, as well as our newest AI-powered offering, AWS Continuum, which manages the full lifecycle of code vulnerabilities at machine speed. This is a dual-facing role. As a field-facing security engineer for Asia-Pacific & Japan (APJ), you will work directly with customers to implement the latest features of our newest security services: leading threat-modelling sessions, performing vulnerability assessments with security agents, and guiding remediation - then channel what you learn back into the product. As a partner-facing security engineer, you will work with leading third-party security providers to identify their highest-signal findings and turn them into correlated, customer-visible detections that raise the security value of our services. Across both, you will design and implement detection content, reduce false positives at scale, and expand coverage across cloud resources, runtime, and AI/ML workloads.

The AWS Security Services team builds technologies that help customers strengthen their security posture and better meet their security requirements in the AWS Cloud. We build massively scalable, globally distributed systems that power the next generation of security services.

Key job responsibilities

• Serve as the field-facing security engineer for APJ, running early-access and gated previews: including our newest AI-powered vulnerability management capabilities with customers, leading threat modelling, vulnerability assessment using security agents, and remediation guidance
• Partner with leading third-party security providers to identify high-signal findings and turn them into correlated, high-fidelity detections that increase the security value of AWS security services
• Work backwards from customers to shape detection coverage and influence service roadmaps, feeding field and partner insights back to science and engineering teams
• Stay up to date with the ever-changing cloud security and threat landscape, including emerging threats targeting agentic AI and ML applications
• Drive detection engineering best practices, including threat modelling, security-value evaluation, false-positive reduction, and coverage measurement
• Collaborate across science, engineering, partner, and field teams, operating with flexible working hours to support global customers and distributed stakeholders

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship background in troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating complex tasks using command line tools experience
• 5+ years of work in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans experience
• Experience (non-internship) in industry-based security vulnerabilities identification, attack patterns, and remediation techniques
• Knowledge of at least two of the following programming languages: Scala, Java, Python, C/C++, or Go

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience applying threat modeling or other risk identification techniques or equivalent
• Experience with security in service-oriented architectures/microservices and web services
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• Experience developing security products
• Experience working in a customer-facing environment
