Job summary

Woodlands Social Centre is seeking a Social Work Associate / Programme Assistant to support the delivery of children’s programmes and development activities in a community setting. The role focuses on THRIVE after-school learning and Club Explore developmental activities for children, working closely with staff, volunteers, families and partners.

Working hours
  • Monday/Wednesday / Friday: 830am to 1730pm
  • Tuesday/Thursday: 12pm to 2100pm
  • Fortnightly Saturday: 830am to 1230pm (Fixed time off is on Monday afternoon)

About the Role

The Social Work Associate / Programme Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of children's programmes, with a primary focus on THRIVE, our structured after-school learning and developmental support programme, and Club Explore, our developmental programme for the children. The role works closely with programme staff, volunteers, children, and families to ensure safe, engaging, and effective programme experiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about working with children and are interested in developing their skills in programme work, social services, and community development.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery & Child Engagement
  • Support the implementation of children's programmes according to approved plans and schedules.
  • Prepare programme materials, attendance records, resources, and activity logistics.
  • Facilitate learning and developmental activities under supervision.
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with children.
  • Support positive behaviour management and group engagement during programme sessions.
  • Observe participant progress and communicate concerns to supervisors appropriately.
Academic & Developmental Support
  • Assist children with homework, learning activities, and academic engagement.
  • Monitor attendance, participation, and progress.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to learning support and programme outcomes.
  • Help identify children who may require additional support and elevate concerns when necessary.
Volunteer Support
  • Coordinate volunteer attendance and deployment for programme activities.
  • Prepare materials and logistical arrangements for volunteers.
  • Provide operational support, briefings, and guidance on programme procedures.
  • Support a positive volunteer experience through timely communication and follow-up.
Programme Administration & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate attendance, consent, evaluation, and programme records.
  • Support data collection, reporting requirements, and funding documentation.
  • Ensure proper filing and timely submission of programme documents.
  • Escalate documentation issues, operational risks, or safeguarding concerns promptly.
Teamwork & Professional Development
  • Participate actively in supervision, training, and team meetings.
  • Support organisation-wide events and cross-programme activities.
  • Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Contribute positively to a child-safe and collaborative work culture.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Social Work, Community Development, Psychology, Early Childhood, Education, Youth Work, or a related field.
  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Relevant experience working with children, youth, volunteers, or community programmes will be an advantage.
