Job summary

Ciena is seeking a Senior Consulting Field Systems Engineer to lead submarine networking engagements and drive solution leadership for Open Cable and hyperscaler connectivity. You will design, price, and document submarine/terrestrial networks while collaborating with Product Management, R&D, Sales, and regional teams to expand opportunities globally.

You will mentor engineers, contribute to product evolution, and apply expertise in optical transport, data center architectures, and automation.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in DWDM/optical transport tech, optical engineering and Layer 0 networking.
• 5+ years in submarine networking, with upgrade projects and SLTE/SIE knowledge.
• Expertise in Open Cable systems, Converged Optical Ethernet, OTN and IP networking.
• Knowledge of 100G/400G/800G+ coherent tech, network architecture and hyperscale environments.
• Understanding of data center architectures, cloud environments, automation, APIs, ZTP, and DCN networking.
• Outstanding customer-facing communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Willing to travel up to ~30%.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical engagements for submarine customers, including tenders, RFPs, design, and technical presentations.
• Design and validate submarine/terrestrial network solutions, develop pricing and cost models, and create deployment plans.
• Collaborate with Product Management, R&D, Sales, and regional teams to influence product evolution.
• Support hyperscaler connectivity opportunities through optical transport and data center expertise.
• Mentor Systems Engineers and promote knowledge sharing and post-project learnings.
