Job summary

iKas International (Asia) Pte Ltd in Singapore is seeking a senior Database Engineer/DBA to lead end-to-end migrations from legacy Oracle to PostgreSQL, optimise performance and ensure security. You will plan phased migrations, validate data integrity with scripts, build monitoring, manage backups, high availability and incident response, and advise application teams on best practices.

Candidates should have 9+ years in production DB engineering, strong Oracle performance skills, PostgreSQL

Qualifications

• 9+ years of hands-on database engineering in production environments.
• Deep Oracle expertise in SQL tuning, indexing, partitioning, replication and performance optimisation.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema transformation and Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration.
• Proven track record in large-scale data migration, reconciliation, cutover and rollback planning.
• Experience with backup and recovery, high availability, failover and production incident management.
• Familiarity with CDC and replication tools such as GoldenGate, AWS DMS or logical replication.
• Experience with AWS RDS/Aurora and scripting in Python, Bash or similar languages.
• Knowledge of database security, access controls, encryption and data masking.
• Strong documentation and technical communication skills.

Responsibilities

Database Migration

• Lead end-to-end migration from legacy databases, covering extraction, transformation, loading, reconciliation and production cutover.

• Develop scripts and tools to validate data integrity, identify discrepancies and support rollback.

• Reverse-engineer undocumented business logic from legacy Oracle stored procedures, triggers and schemas.

• Plan phased migrations and co-existence strategies to minimise downtime and operational risks.

Performance and Reliability

• Troubleshoot slow queries, optimise SQL, indexing, partitioning and database configurations.

• Manage database backup and recovery, high availability, replication, disaster recovery and version upgrades.

• Build monitoring and alerting, troubleshoot production incidents and lead root-cause analysis.

• Optimise connection pooling, capacity, storage and database costs.

Security and Technical Leadership

• Review schema changes and ensure safe database deployments in live environments.

• Manage access controls, encryption, data masking and audit logging.

• Establish engineering standards and advise application teams on SQL, transactions and database performance.

What we are looking for

• At least 9 years of hands-on database engineering or DBA experience in production environments.

• Deep Oracle expertise in SQL tuning, indexing, partitioning, replication and performance optimisation.

• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema transformation and Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration.
