Job summary

A*STAR's ARTC invites a Senior Scientist to join the Remanufacturing Process Technology Group, focusing on Electron Beam Welding, Laser Welding, and Additive Manufacturing for aerospace, energy, maritime, semiconductor, and related industries.

You will develop and optimize joining processes, lead industry-driven R&D, mentor researchers, and help deploy digital manufacturing initiatives within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• PhD in Welding Engineering or related discipline is required.
• Industrial or research experience in EBW, laser welding or laser-arc hybrid welding.
• Strong understanding of welding metallurgy and materials characterization.

Senior Scientist – Advanced Beam Welding & Additive Manufacturing

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our Advanced E-beam and Arc Joining Team at ARTC’s Remanufacturing Process Technology Group. The successful candidate will drive and support the development of advanced processes, with a focus on Electron Beam Welding, Laser Welding, and Additive Manufacturing for industrial applications in sectors such as aerospace, energy, maritime, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize electron beam welding, laser welding, and additive manufacturing processes.
• Lead and contribute to industry-driven R&D projects.
• Investigate process impact on weld quality, defects, microstructure, and mechanical performance.
• Develop welding procedures, process qualification methodologies, and best practices.
• Support process monitoring, automation, and digital manufacturing initiatives.
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to capability development.

Requirements

• PhD in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Relevant industrial and/or research experience in electron beam welding, laser welding, and/or laser-arc hybrid welding.
• Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, materials characterization, and process development.
• Hands-on experimental mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
• Any other ad-hoc work for the team, Group, Organisation and A*STAR with possible secondary roles.

Preferred

• Experience with aerospace, energy, maritime, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing applications.
• Experience with process monitoring, robotics, automation, data analytics, or digital manufacturing technologies.
• Track record of industrial project delivery and technology deployment.
