Job summary

The Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) within A*STAR seeks a Senior Research Engineer to develop laser powder Directed Energy Deposition (DED) capabilities for additive manufacturing, repair, remanufacturing, and hybrid DED‑machining.

You will lead DED projects, optimize processes, design CAD/CAM workflows, operate laser DED systems, analyze data, and collaborate with industry partners to translate technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in metal Directed Energy Deposition with laser powder DED systems.
• Strong experience in CAD/CAM workflows for DED applications and fixture design.
• Familiarity with laser-material interaction, powder delivery, shielding gas, and thermal effects.
• Experience with machine operation, toolpath execution, and safe operation of DED systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead DED application projects including repair, remanufacturing, cladding, and near-net-shape fabrication.
• Develop, optimize and evaluate laser powder DED processes for metallic materials.
• Plan and deliver DED projects including experimental planning, resource estimation, execution and reporting.
• Develop CAD/CAM and toolpath workflows for complex DED applications.
• Operate and troubleshoot CNC-based and/or robot-based laser powder-fed DED systems.
