About the Role
Our client is an innovative technology company developing AI-powered solutions for retail and warehouse automation, with a flagship initiative centred on coordinating ground-based robotic platforms with aerial drone payloads. They are building a brand-new Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) platform from the ground up, and this role sits at the very heart of that effort. As the founding technical pillar of a greenfield robotics programme, the successful candidate will own the full product lifecycle - from proof-of-concept through to commercial mass deployment. This is a rare opportunity to shape an entire robotics division and grow naturally into a leadership role as the platform scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full lifecycle of the AMR platform, driving development from initial proof-of-concept and prototyping through to large-scale deployment in complex retail and warehouse environments
- Design and optimise control software to manage real-time dispatch and communication between the ground-based AMR unit and its onboard drone payload, as part of an air-ground coordination architecture
- Integrate multi-sensor systems - including LiDAR, depth cameras, and IMUs - using ROS2 (Nav2 Stack) for both differential and omnidirectional drive configurations
- Develop and validate SLAM, path planning, and localisation pipelines to ensure reliable autonomous navigation in dynamic, real-world environments
- Lead hardware and electrical integration efforts, including power distribution design, wiring schematics, chassis vendor engagement, and mass-production readiness
- Manage on-site commissioning, system troubleshooting, and performance tuning across deployment environments
- Establish engineering standards, documentation, and processes that lay the groundwork for a growing robotics team
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, software, and operations stakeholders to align technical deliverables with product and business milestones
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in robotics system engineering, with a minimum of 3 years dedicated to AMR or AGV development , including a proven track record of commercial or industrial deployment
- Strong software proficiency in C++ and Python , with hands-on expertise in ROS/ROS2, real-time control systems, SLAM, path planning, and localisation
- Practical experience with mechanical and electrical integration, including power systems, sensor fusion, and on-site hardware troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex, end-to-end technical projects in a fast-paced or startup environment, with an appetite for growing into a team leadership capacity
- Experience with OpenCV and industrial machine vision (is a bonus)
- Background in multi-robot or heterogeneous system coordination (e.g. ground-aerial platforms) (is a bonus)
