About the Role
Our client is a tech startup developing innovative AI driven solutions for retail industry, with an established drone division and an exciting new ground robotics initiative. This is a founding technical role on a greenfield project - you will have full end-to-end ownership of an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) mobile base platform, from initial proof-of-concept through to commercial-scale deployment in complex indoor logistics environments. As the product scales, this role carries a natural growth path into building and leading a dedicated robotics engineering team. If you thrive in a 0-to-1 environment and want to shape the technical foundation of a category-defining product, this is a rare opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full development lifecycle of the AMR mobile base system - from early prototyping and POC through to large-scale commercial deployment in demanding indoor warehouse settings
- Develop and optimise control software to manage communication and coordination between the ground mobile base and an onboard aerial payload, ensuring reliable command execution and seamless multi-platform collaboration
- Define drive system requirements (differential or omnidirectional) and lead the integration and tuning of navigation sensors (LiDAR, depth cameras, IMU) with the ROS2 Navigation Stack (Nav2)
- Lead hardware integration of the mobile base, including the design of power distribution architectures, electrical wiring schematics, and appropriate safety systems
- Drive the transition from prototype to commercial mass production; manage the supply chain for off-the-shelf and open-source chassis components, qualify vendors, and produce manufacturing and integration documentation
- Conduct rigorous stress testing and performance optimisation across both simulated and real-world warehouse environments to ensure high uptime and reliability in commercial operations
- Serve as the technical bridge between navigation software, hardware chassis, electrical design, sensor systems, and the existing drone engineering team
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of experience in robotics system development, with at least 3 years specifically focused on AMR or AGV platforms; a proven track record of successfully deploying robotic systems in commercial or industrial environments is essential
- Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ and Python , with deep hands‑on experience in the ROS/ROS2 framework and real‑time control systems; extensive practical experience with SLAM, path planning, and localisation algorithms is required
- Demonstrated success in hardware and system integration across mechanical assemblies, actuators, sensors, and power systems, including on‑site commissioning and hardware/software troubleshooting
- Proven ability to collaborate across multiple technology vendors and cross‑functional engineering teams in a fast‑paced, interdisciplinary environment
- Experience with OpenCV and industrial vision systems (is a bonus)
