What You’ll
- Establish best practice protection and control systems for HVAC and HVDC interconnections
- Design systems in compliance with regulations and grid codes
- Engage stakeholders’ acceptance and buy‑in
- Lead technical clarifications and design risk reviews
- Review and verify contractor submissions, including but not limited to:
- Overall system designs
- Protection philosophies
- Detailed schematics
- Communication system and integration
- Ensure compliance with technical standards, grid codes and project requirements across:
- Grid-to-Grid and Plant-to-Grid interconnections
- Integration with Transmission & Distribution network, and Generation / Customer connections
- Oversee verification of:
- Project specifications and contractors’ technical and engineering proposals including type of relays and equipment deployed
- Integration of interconnections with new substations, extensions, and equipment upgrades
- Communication infrastructure and systems
- Lead teams for:
- Factory audits and acceptance testings
- Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for protection and control systems
- Protection and control testing, commissioning and operations for interconnection and transmission/distribution networks
3. Operations & Incident Management
- On call for standby duties for protection‑related alarms and incidents
- Investigate, analyze, and report protection system failures or abnormalities
- Drive corrective and preventive actions
- Develop and maintain system protection philosophy, including but not limited to:
- Site‑specific protection schemes / setup / design
- Ensure continuous update of models, settings, and documentation
5. Capability Development
- Conduct technical on‑the‑job training and briefings for:
- Internal engineering teams
- External stakeholders and contractors
- Mentor and develop engineers to build core and best practice HVDC protection and control competency within the organization
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in protection and control with minimum 8 years of proven track record working in the related industry
- Strong understanding of Protection systems for transmission and distribution networks & HVDC control and protection systems (preferred)
- Experience with design review and engineering validation
- Experience with testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of protection systems
- Familiarity with power system tools such as: PSCAD, DIgSILENT, PowerFactory, PSSE
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional teams
