Job summary

SPH Media seeks an experienced Deputy / Assistant Opinion Editor to join The Straits Times Opinion desk. The role blends high-impact commentary with daily Forum operations, shaping national discourse, and ensuring editorial neutrality across Singapore’s leading news platform.

You will commission, edit, and curate external contributions, manage policy discussions, and coordinate with public agencies and stakeholders to publish timely responses.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years in journalism, policy analysis, or related field with track record in commentary or editing at a major news organisation.
• Deep knowledge across Singaporean affairs, Asian geopolitics, or global macroeconomics.
• Excellent diplomacy and communication skills for engagement with contributors, government agencies, and the public.
• Outstanding command of English, with strong structuring, tone, clarity, and grammar.

Responsibilities

• Source, commission, and edit high-quality op-eds and commentary from external contributors.
• Refine policy, geopolitical, and socio-economic arguments into clear, engaging prose with neutrality.
• Build and nurture a network of thought leaders across Asia and beyond.
• Use analytics to evaluate performance and inform editorial strategy.
• Package content for digital platforms with optimized headlines and visuals.
