The Straits Times, Singapore's leading English-language daily published by SPH Media, seeks a Senior Columnist to join its Opinion desk. You will write 1 to 2 high-impact opinion columns per week, delivering fresh insights backed by deep reporting.

You will identify trends in politics, economics, and society, shape the debate for Singapore and Asia, and participate in multimedia engagements across podcasts and video. Collaborate with the Opinion Editor and mentor junior writers.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in journalism or policy analysis with commentary or long-form work.
• Deep knowledge of Singaporean affairs, Asian geopolitics, or global macroeconomics.
• Confident, engaging writing style that is clear and nuanced.
• Ability to use data and empirical evidence to support arguments.

Responsibilities

• Write 1–2 signature columns per week with fresh, original insights.
• Shape the debate by framing conversations for Singapore and Asia.
• Provide rigorous, data-informed analysis in commentary of global affairs.
• Engage across platforms: podcasts, video, and long-form interviews.
• Collaborate with the Opinion Editor and mentor junior writers.
• Build and maintain a high-level network of sources.
