The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be a key member of our Global Operations team, responsible for turning R&D designs into products that any qualified contract manufacturer can build repeatably. The role owns the engineering data, processes, and documentation behind every robot build, and will be central to taking our products from pilot builds to high-volume production across multiple manufacturing sites. It offers an exciting opportunity for a structured, hands-on engineer to scale a robotics product from pilot to volume in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities:
- Process Engineering: Define, validate, and maintain manufacturing, assembly, and test processes at contract manufacturers and suppliers for parts, components, and assemblies.
- Modular Build Architecture: Develop process-based modularization for product design, structuring requirements into modules and sub-assemblies that can be built and tested independently.
- Design for Excellence (DFX): Feed pilot and production requirements back to R&D and drive DFM / DFA improvements to reduce build time, meet build cost targets through design and process decisions, and ensure compliant product rollout.
- Technical Documentation: Develop clear work instructions, assembly sequences, and manufacturing routings for each build stage. Govern the maintenance of technical documentation, including SOPs, manufacturing work instructions, and technical drawings.
- Engineering Data Control: Own engineering change management and the release of manufacturing BOMs and drawings. Freeze and control the build baseline for each phase, keep revisions accurate across contract manufacturers and suppliers, and establish a controlled BOM and drawing management system.
- Build Transfer & Contract Manufacturing Management: Work with approved contract manufacturers and suppliers, develop standard build packages, and facilitate build transfers to new contract manufacturers, supporting the ramp-up from pilot to high-volume production.
- Pilot Build Support: Support pilot builds on-site at contract manufacturers, including setting up jigs, fixtures, and test stations, resolving build issues, and confirming processes are ready for volume production.
- Quality: Establish in-process inspection and testing procedures. Lead production part approval for product qualification and support NCR / CAPA root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Cross-functional Coordination and Reporting: Work closely with R&D, quality, supply chain, and operations teams to understand build requirements and priorities, and prepare regular reports on build cost, production readiness progress, and key issues for management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 6 to 8 years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering, preferably with robotics, electromechanical, or electronics products, including hands-on experience taking a product from pilot to volume production.
- Strong working knowledge of BOM structures, engineering drawings and GD&T, and engineering change control.
- Experience establishing engineering change, BOM, and documentation systems, ideally in a startup or early-stage environment.
- Hands-on experience with electromechanical assembly and testing, such as cable harnesses, PCBAs, motors, and end-of-line testing.
- Proven experience writing work instructions and setting up manufacturing and assembly processes and routings.
- Working knowledge of DFM / DFA, FAI, and structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, and PFMEA; familiarity with production part approval (e.g. PPAP) is a plus.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers, including transferring products into production. Experience with US manufacturing and product compliance standards (e.g. UL, FCC, CE) is a strong advantage.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Siemens NX) is a must and experience with PLM systems is a plus.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing principles and tools (e.g. value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen, line balancing) is a plus.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across R&D, quality, supply chain, and external partners.
- Willing to travel, including overseas, based on business needs.
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will play a critical role in making our robots scalable. By controlling engineering data, building repeatable processes, and transferring builds to our contract manufacturers, this individual will make sure our products can be built right first time at any site, contributing directly to our product launches and the global growth of the company.
