Job summary

Nxera seeks a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert to lead the design and delivery of mechanical systems for data centers, including ACMV, hydraulics, fire protection, plumbing and thermal management. You will ensure safety, performance and sustainability.

You will perform cooling load and hydraulic calculations, size equipment (chillers, pumps, cooling towers) and coordinate procurement, testing and commissioning with consultants and field teams; willingness to travel in Asia-Pacific.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical PE licensure preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience designing and maintaining mechanical systems for data centers or similar critical facilities.
  • Knowledge of large-scale mission critical facility’s Mechanical infrastructure systems.
  • Experience with fast-track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects.
  • Fundamental knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles, fire protection and plumbing and sanitary system.
  • Ability to incorporate Renewable Energy System to the Distribution Network and strong understanding of Mechanical codes and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong oral, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Possess positive working attitude, ability to work independently and team players.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers and consultants.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Willingness to travel to Malaysia and other Asia Pacific region.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop Mechanical systems for new and existing data centers, including ACMV systems, hydraulic systems and thermodynamics refrigeration cycle, Fire Protection System, Plumbing & Sanitary System, etc.
  • Perform cooling load calculation, hydraulic calculation, equipment sizing (chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handlers) and selection and procurement of equipment ensuring safety standards and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the core team to understand, develop and update data center mechanical designs from basis of design to IFC documents for new data center project buildouts and major infrastructure upgrades.
  • Work with consultants during concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, SAT, delivery, and installation on site; identify and resolve issues.
  • Update and maintain internal design specifications, drawings, and standards; review design and equipment submittals for new Data Centers.
  • Liaise with internal business units and external customers for technical requirements to translate into executable plans; knowledge of BMS/DCIM and integration with data center infrastructure.
  • Evaluate the design, construction and operation of mission-critical facilities and associated MEP components.
  • Participate in and review Data Center MEP Design and other necessary disciplines for new builds and data hall fitouts.
  • Continuously seek ways to collaborate and innovate to meet future needs; develop design-solutions to add capacity and improve efficiency and sustainability.
  • Support the DC Engineering FM team to become a Subject Matter Expert and overcome design limitations and risks.
  • Interface with stakeholders to promote standards ensuring reliability in services delivered.

We are seeking a Data Centre Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team at Nxera to unfold the new era!

Make an Impact by

  • Design and develop Mechanical systems for new and existing data centers, including but not limited with ACMV system, Hydraulic system and thermodynamics refrigeration cycle, Fire Protection System, Plumbing & Sanitary System, etc.
  • Perform various engineering calculation (i.e. cooling load calculation, hydraulic calculation, etc.), equipment sizing (i.e. chiller, pump, cooling tower, air handler) and selection and procurement of equipment ensuring it meets safety standards and performance requirements.
  • An excellent understanding and experience of the mechanical and control systems used in a data centre environment, including: Fuel Systems, Building Management Systems and Controls, Chilled water cooling plant, Air handling units, Variable Frequency Drives (VSDs), Fire Alarm systems, and Fire Suppression systems (pre-action sprinklers).
  • Experience of complex automatic control equipment, including relay logic, programmable logic controllers (PLC's), building management systems, and their integration with the data centre infrastructure.
  • Extensive experience of large-scale chilled water plant including chillers, chilled water distribution and storage systems, Liquid Cooling systems, cooling towers, and chemical dosing systems
  • Collaborate with the core team to understand, develop and update the data centre mechanical designs, starting from basis of design (BOD), feasibility study, concept and detailed design development to issue for constructions (IFC) documents, for new data centre project buildouts and major infrastructure upgrades to all levels of testing and commissioning works.
  • Perform as Mechanical engineer subject matter expert to work with consultants during concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, SAT, delivery, and installation on site. Identify and resolve issues raised by the cross-functional teams.
  • Update and maintain the internal design specifications, drawings, and standards in accordance with the latest configurations and including all 'lessons learned' in relation to all equipment. Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers.
  • Liaise with internal business units and external customers for technical requirement to translate into executable plan for implementation by consultant and/or contractor.
  • Knowledgeable in Building Management System/DCIM, able to understand system architect and point schedule. Experience in handling BMS/DCIM enhancement project.
  • Evaluate the design& construction and operation of mission-critical facilities and associated MEP components.
  • To Participate and Review Data Center MEP Design and other necessary disciplines for new data center builds and data hall fitouts.
  • To continually find ways to collaborate and break new ground to enhance MEP design to meet future needs. Develop innovative solutions.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
  • Support the DC Engineering FM team to become a Subject Matter Expert and understand how to overcome design limitations and risks.
  • Interface with internal stakeholders to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Liaise and assist Operation team to identify/understand Mechanical System issues and provide solutions.
  • Perform technical design reviews and proposal for data centre first of kind systems and equipment.
  • Review data centre commissioning scripts to ensure they accurately test all modes of operations. Witness key commissioning tests on site.
  • Conduct site inspection and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, mechanical systems audits, and start-up as needed.
  • Continually maintain positive and collaborative working relations with partner teams, vendors, teammates, and internal customers.

Success by skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in designing and maintaining mechanical systems for data centers or similar critical facilities
  • Knowledge of large-scale mission critical facility’s Mechanical infrastructure systems.
