The Ministry of Manpower in Singapore is seeking a policy-focused professional to shape strategies and programmes that strengthen workplace safety and health, reduce injuries, and ensure financial protection for workers.

You will work closely with senior management and a broad network of partners to review legislation, study international best practices, and advance priorities like technology-enabled safety, mental health, and inclusive workplaces.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies, policies and programmes to strengthen workplace safety and health.
  • Collaborate with Senior Management to formulate and review policies and legislation.
  • Work with government agencies, unions, industry associations, NGOs, employers and insurers to develop initiatives.
  • Study international best practices and adapt to Singapore’s context.
  • Advance priorities such as science and technology to improve safety, resilience to climate change, mental health, age-friendly workplaces, and platform-work safety.

Job description

What the role is:

You will develop strategies, policies and programmes to strengthen workplace safety and health ─ thus reducing workplace injuries, promoting good mental and physical workforce health, and ensuring adequate financial protection for workers in the case of work injuries.

What you will be working on:

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work closely with Senior Management to formulate and review policies and legislation such such as the Workplace Safety and Health Act and Work Injury Compensation Act. This includes working on legislative amendments and drafting parliamentary speeches for any bills to be passed.
  • Work with other government agencies, unions, industry associations, non-government organisations, employers and insurers to develop effective workplace safety and health and work injury compensation initiatives.
  • Study international best practices in workplace safety and health and work injury compensation which may be adapted to Singapore’s context.
  • Advance key priorities such as harnessing science & technology to improve workplace safety and health performance, building resilience against heat and climate change, promoting mental health and well-being at workplaces, fostering age-friendly workplaces where senior workers can thrive, and improving the safety of platform work.
