Job summary

The GMP Group is seeking an experienced EHS leader to ensure regulatory compliance and to foster a strong safety culture across the construction of a new facility and its transition into daily operations.

You will collaborate with internal teams and contractors to embed EHS into design and everyday activities, conduct risk assessments, audits, training and incident investigations, and report progress to management.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Workplace Safety & Health or related field.
• At least 10 years of EHS experience in industrial settings.

Job description

Scope: Responsible for ensuring EHS compliance throughout the construction phase of a new facility, as well as supporting the transition into daily operations. This role will work closely with internal departments, contractors and senior management to establish a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and company EHS standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement EHS strategies, policies and programmes in alignment with company objectives and local regulatory requirements.
• Oversee EHS matters throughout the construction phase, ensuring contractors and site activities comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.
• Conduct and review risk assessments, workplace inspections and safety audits, implementing appropriate preventive and corrective measures.
• Ensure compliance with Singapore WSH and environmental regulations, including relevant reporting and documentation.
• Oversee contractor safety management, including work permits, high-risk activities and Design for Safety (DfS) requirements.
• Monitor EHS performance, identify areas for improvement and provide regular updates and reports to management.
• Coordinate internal and external EHS audits, incident investigations and follow-up corrective actions.
• Develop and conduct EHS training, safety awareness programmes and emergency response exercises for employees and contractors.
• Oversee fire safety, emergency preparedness, waste management and other environmental matters.
• Work closely with project, engineering, construction and operational teams to ensure EHS requirements are incorporated into project design and daily operations.
• Lead and develop the EHS team, providing guidance, coaching and support to ensure effective implementation of EHS programmes.

Requirements:

• Degree or Diploma in Workplace Safety & Health, Environmental Safety, Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of relevant EHS experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical, petrochemical, semiconductor or other industrial manufacturing environments.
• Strong experience in construction safety management, preferably involving greenfield or large-scale industrial projects.
• MOM-registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) is preferred.
• Familiarity with Singapore WSH regulations, risk assessments, contractor management and EHS compliance.
• Experience in fire safety management, emergency response and EHS management systems will be an advantage.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage teams and work effectively with different stakeholders.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Proficiency in English is required. Mandarin-speaking ability will be an advantage when liaising with stakeholders in China.
