Job summary

Swire Shipping PTE. LTD. seeks a Ship Manager for Heavy Lift Vessels to represent the Owner's interests and ensure safe operation, proper maintenance and cost‑effective performance of heavy lift/breakbulk ships managed by third‑party managers.

The role requires hands‑on vessel visits, strong technical oversight of crane systems, gear readiness, and collaboration with operations, class, and insurers. Sea‑going and shore‑based ship management experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Class 1 Motor Certificate of Competency is required.
• Shore-based Ship Manager/Technical Superintendent/Fleet Manager or Owner's Representative experience.
• Experience with heavy lift/breakbulk operations and crane systems.

Responsibilities

• Act as Owner's Representative for assigned heavy lift vessels managed by third-party ship management companies.
• Ensure vessels are safely operated, properly maintained within approved budgets and meet operational/commercial needs.
• Monitor KPIs for safety, reliability, maintenance, cost, crewing, class status and drydock performance.
• Meet regularly with ship managers to review vessel condition, performance and planned maintenance.
• Escalate matters to Swire Shipping's Fleet Manager and share lessons learned.
• Attend drydockings and major repair periods to protect owner's interests and review scope.
• Provide guidance on crane operations, heavy lift readiness and cargo handling requirements.
• Report regularly on vessel performance and risk to Fleet Manager.
