Job summary

CHINA COMMUNICATIONS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY LIMITED (SINGAPORE BRANCH) seeks a senior geotechnical engineer to lead site investigations, instrumentation monitoring and design reviews for major infrastructure projects in Singapore. You will oversee field activities, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with clients, consultants and contractors.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil or Geotechnical Engineering degree, has 8+ years of geotechnical experience, including 5+ years supervising

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering recognised by PE Board or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• At least 5 years in construction supervision of geotechnical works on large projects.
• Experience in Singapore LTA projects, MRT, tunnelling, deep excavation or similar.
• Strong knowledge of geotechnical design, instrumentation and monitoring.
• Excellent communication and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical analysis, soil classification, data analysis and interpretation for project planning.
• Identify soil/rock samples and prepare reports on site conditions.
• Review and manage records to ensure calibration of survey equipment.
• Submit progress, technical reports and assessments on geotechnical issues.
• Read and interpret project drawings and specifications; flag discrepancies.
• Prepare daily task progress reports on site.
• Attend design and weekly coordination meetings with stakeholders.
• Propose instrumentation and monitoring schemes for safety and stability.
• Collaborate with design consultants and tender teams for cost-effective solutions.
• Conduct site inspections with Client and regulatory bodies and close RFIs.
• Review design reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with specs.
• Provide geotechnical support during construction with site modifications as needed.
• Conduct risk assessments and mitigation planning.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations and industry standards.
• Monitor instrumentation readings and report abnormalities.

Job description

Job Responsibilities :

• Conduct geotechnical analysis, soil classification, data analysis, and interpretation of instrumentation works to ensure accurate project planning.
• Identify soil/rock samples and prepare and submit reports and summary on site conditions.
• Compare, review, manage records to ensure all survey equipment has a valid calibration certificate.
• Submit progress reports, technical reports, and assessments on geotechnical issues encountered on-site.
• Read, review, and interpret project drawings, specifications, and design requirements, and highlight any discrepancies, ensuring adherence to relevant codes and standards.
• Prepare daily report of tasks completion progress on site.
• Attend design and weekly meetings.
• Attend internal coordination meetings with subcontractors/suppliers.
• Attend daily tool box meeting and pre-start meeting.
• Propose instrumentation and monitoring schemes to ensure the safety and stability of structures.
• Work closely with design consultants and tender teams to develop efficient and cost-effective geotechnical solutions.
• Conduct site inspections with Client, QPS/RE/RTO on site and close the RFI comments.
• Review design reports and drawings prepared by design consultants to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
• Provide geotechnical support during construction phases by recommending site modifications and monitoring the execution of geotechnical solutions.
• Conduct risk assessments to identify potential geotechnical hazards and develop mitigation plans.
• Ensure that all geotechnical activities comply with local regulations and industry standards.
• Monitor all instrumentation readings and report to management of any abnormal readings.
• Liaise with government agencies and stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering, recognised by the Professional Engineers Board (PEB), or a qualification acceptable to the Commissioner of Building Control.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in construction supervision of geotechnical works for projects of similar scale, complexity, and nature.
• Experience in LTA projects, MRT, tunnelling, deep excavation, shafts, or other major infrastructure projects in Singapore will be an advantage.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in geotechnical design, analysis, construction supervision, instrumentation, and monitoring.
• Experience in deep excavation, tunnels, foundations, slopes, ground improvement, and/or temporary works will be advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical assessment skills.
• Good knowledge of Singapore's relevant statutory requirements, regulations, Codes of Practice, and engineering standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with Clients, Consultants, Contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Able to work independently, take ownership of technical matters, and operate effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
