Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Staff, Systems Design – System Architect to provide technical architecture and leadership for firmware and low-level embedded software in advanced scientific instruments.

You will define firmware architecture for motors, sensors, optics, thermal systems, and electro-mechanical subsystems, collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to deliver robust, testable firmware solutions.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Advanced degree plus 6 years of firmware/embedded experience or Bachelor's plus 8 years.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Experience architecting firmware for embedded controllers, sensors, actuators, and electronics.

Responsibilities

• Lead firmware architecture and technical design for instrument controllers and embedded subsystems.
• Define hardware abstraction, interfaces, real-time behavior, and communications between controllers and higher-level software.
• Translate system requirements into firmware requirements and architecture specifications.
• Architect firmware for motion control, sensors, actuators, fluidics, thermal control, optics, and diagnostics.
• Mentor firmware engineers and guide multiple development teams.
