NTU is seeking a Senior Executive for the Construction Technology and Protective Engineering Laboratory within the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The role oversees day-to-day operations, equipment, safety, and workflows to enable cutting-edge research and experiential learning.

Working with faculty, researchers, and students, you will mentor staff, manage procurement, and drive digital enhancements in lab operations, contributing to NTU’s mission in science and technology

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant laboratory operations experience, preferably in academia.
  • Diploma in Engineering with at least 5 years relevant experience may be considered.
  • Proven expertise in machining, fabrication, CNC tools, and workshop operations.
  • Good knowledge of construction technology, protective engineering equipment, lab safety, and digital process tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary person in charge of the workshop, managing equipment usage, scheduling, and workflow; ensure facilities are well maintained and ready for academic and research needs.
  • Operate and supervise machining processes including cutting, drilling, grinding, sawing, CNC routing, and other fabrication services.
  • Support students, faculty, and researchers with fabrication requests, offering technical guidance on design feasibility, materials, and methods; deliver timely solutions for urgent projects.
  • Enforce safety protocols, train personnel in equipment use, maintain risk assessments, and ensure compliance with university standards.
  • Oversee maintenance, servicing, calibration, and procurement of tools and consumables; track usage, records, and asset replacement/disposal.
  • Mentor and train students, research staff, and new hires in machining techniques and safe workshop practices.
  • Support teaching curriculum by preparing demonstrations and assisting in laboratory sessions.
  • Monitor equipment usage charges, provide exam support, and contribute to academic events.
  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to integrate digital tools and modern techniques in laboratory operations.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and assignments as delegated by the Reporting Officer, such as managing procurement or participating in school-wide initiatives.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies to support world-class research and teaching activities.

Job description

The Senior Executive, Construction Technology and Protective Engineering (CTPE) Laboratory is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the CTPE Laboratory in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), ensuring the efficient management of facilities, equipment, resources, and safety compliance. This key role drives operational excellence through the optimization of workflows, implementation of process improvements, and adoption of innovative laboratory and workshop practices.

Working closely with faculty members, researchers, students, and industry collaborators, the Senior Executive provides critical technical expertise and operational support that enable cutting-edge research, experiential learning, and innovation in construction technology and protective engineering. The role plays a vital part in sustaining a safe, collaborative, and productive environment while enhancing the laboratory’s capabilities to support the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering’s academic and research objectives. Through effective stewardship of laboratory and workshop operations, the position contributes to NTU’s mission of advancing global excellence in science, engineering, and technology.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements:
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, preferably in an academic or research environment.

  • Proven expertise in machining, fabrication, CNC tools, and workshop operations.

  • Solid knowledge of construction technology, protective engineering equipment, lab safety, and digital process tools.
