Job summary

The Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Group within the National Environment Agency (NEA) in Singapore is the national authority for radiation protection. The Engineering Executive/Senior Engineering Executive will administer radiation safety regulations and licensing, and help advance the framework through inspections and guidance to license applicants.

Working in the Ionising Radiation Control Department, you will process licence applications, evaluate health and environmental impacts,

Qualifications

• Polytechnic diploma in science or engineering required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and document preparation.
• Strong communication and writing skills; able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Administer radiation safety regulations and licensing processes.
• Process applications for radiation licences; request clarifications when needed.
• Evaluate health and environmental impacts of radiation exposure.
• Provide guidance to applicants on licensing-related matters.
• Conduct inspections of premises handling irradiating equipment or radioactive materials and draft inspection reports.
• Perform other duties as required by the Regulation Division.

[What the role is]

The Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Group in NEA is Singapore’s national authority for radiation protection, safeguarding the public, radiation workers and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation. Our Regulation Division administers and enforces the Radiation Protection Act and Regulations through licensing and inspections.

[What you will be working on]

As the Engineering Executive/ Senior Engineering Executive of the Ionising Radiation Control Department in the Regulation Division, you will administer radiation safety regulations and advance Singapore’s radiation protection framework through:

• Implementing the Radiation Protection Act and its Regulations, ensuring that all users of radiation comply with safety requirements across Singapore
• Processing applications for radiation licences and where necessary, seek clarification from applicants on their licence applications
• Evaluating health and environmental impacts of radiation exposure
• Providing guidance to applicants in their licence applications and enquiries on licensing-related matters
• Conducting inspections, where necessary, of medical and industrial premises that handle irradiating apparatus/radioactive materials and prepare inspection reports and assessments based on the information gathered from inspections
• Performing other duties as may be required of you under purview of the Regulation Division
