Job summary

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Global Electrification Center in Singapore seeks a senior engineer with strong maritime experience to advance vessel performance modeling and simulation for electrified and hybrid assets.

You will apply Matlab/Simulink, Python, Modelica and related tools to evaluate propulsion power architectures, energy storage, and control strategies, supporting design assessment and rule development within ABS standards.

Qualifications

Master’s or PhD in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering.
Strong maritime industry experience and understanding of vessel operations.
Experience in vessel performance, propulsion, or integrated marine system simulation.
Knowledge of marine propulsion power architectures and energy storage.
Familiarity with classification rules, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Proficient with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, Modelica, ETAP or PSCAD.
Excellent analytical, communication, and technical writing skills.

Responsibilities

Assess vessel performance and propulsion architectures in ABS classification work.
Develop and apply simulation models for operating profiles and environment.
Analyze energy use, efficiency, and system behavior across vessel types.
Evaluate propulsion architecture options including storage, drives, and controls.
Review design submissions against ABS rules and international standards.
Contribute to ABS rules, guides, and methodologies.
Prepare technical reports and collaborate with owners, designers, shipyards, and researchers.
