Job summary

Rockwell Automation is seeking a Staff Firmware Security Engineer to define cybersecurity architecture and drive secure development across embedded product platforms. You will lead cross-functional teams, influence roadmaps, and mentor engineers to ensure compliance with global standards and high-quality innovation.

Required are 7+ years in embedded firmware with security focus, strong C/C++ expertise, Python, and experience in threat modeling, vulnerability management, and DevSecOps.

Qualifications

• Minimum with bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of embedded firmware development experience, including minimum 5+ years in firmware security or embedded cybersecurity.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across products or platforms.
• Experience driving cybersecurity initiatives and influencing architecture decisions.
• Expert in C/C++ and real-time embedded systems.
• Expert in Secure Boot, cryptography, PKI, secure firmware updates, secure storage, key/cert management, security protocols, TCP/IP, and device authentication.
• Experience with threat modeling, security risk assessments, penetration testing, and vulnerability management.
• Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps and security automation practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of cybersecurity solutions across embedded and industrial automation platforms.
• Define product cybersecurity strategies and drive secure-by-design principles through the lifecycle.
• Provide technical leadership for embedded security technologies and influence product roadmaps.
• Lead cybersecurity architecture reviews, threat modeling, risk assessments, and mitigation planning.
• Establish direction for vulnerability remediation and product security improvements across projects.
• Guide compliance with IEC 62443, NIST, ISA/IEC industrial security standards and internal secure SDLC.
• Partner with product security, firmware, systems, hardware, and quality teams to influence architectures.
• Be SME on secure coding, threat mitigation, cryptography, embedded security, and industrial cybersecurity best practices.
• Lead investigations of critical vulnerabilities and field-reported cybersecurity issues across teams.
• Develop engineering processes, security verification methods, standards, and best practices.
• Mentor firmware and cybersecurity engineers to grow organizational capabilities.
• Evaluate cybersecurity technologies and trends to influence future strategies.
• Lead product security certification efforts and engagements with customers and cert bodies.
