Job summary

PVH (Tommy Hilfiger/Calvin Klein) is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and maintain secure, scalable backend services powering citizen-facing applications. You will collaborate with frontend, mobile, product, and DevSecOps teams in an Agile environment.

The role requires strong Node.js, TypeScript/JavaScript skills, experience with RESTful APIs and GraphQL, and AWS/ECS/EKS. You will ensure data integrity in PostgreSQL/MySQL and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to support the development and enhancement of a government digital platform. You will design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable backend services and APIs that power citizen-facing web and mobile applications, working closely with frontend engineers, mobile developers, product managers, and DevSecOps teams in an Agile environment.

Working Hours: Mon-Fri – Working Location: Central – Salary Package: Up to $11,000 (basic) + AWS.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js.
• Develop and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs for web and mobile applications.
• Integrate with internal and external systems, including authentication, payment, and government digital services.
• Implement integrations with platforms such as Singpass, SearchSG, MUIS Halal System, Quran.com, and other third-party services as required.
• Design and develop containerised microservices using Docker and AWS ECS/EKS.
• Optimise application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Design and manage relational databases, ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Collaborate with frontend, mobile, QA, DevSecOps, and product teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Conduct code reviews, implement automated testing, and support CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure applications comply with government security standards, application security best practices, and IM8 requirements.
• Support production deployments, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in backend or full stack software development.
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and GraphQL services.
• Experience integrating external APIs and enterprise systems.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL database design and optimisation.
• Experience developing containerised applications using Docker.
• Experience deploying applications on AWS using ECS and/or EKS.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile software development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience delivering Singapore Government or public sector digital projects.
• Experience integrating with government digital services such as Singpass and SearchSG.
• Familiarity with MUIS Halal System, Quran.com APIs, or other Islamic digital platforms.
• Experience working with Government Commercial Cloud (GCC AWS).
• Familiarity with SHIP-HATS 2.0 secure software delivery practices.
• Strong understanding of application security, OWASP Top 10, authentication and authorisation mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect), and secure API design.
• Knowledge of IM8 security governance and compliance requirements.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, or ELK.
