Job summary

Airwallex in Singapore seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the Spend team to lead backend architecture and scalable financial workflows. You will shape technical direction across corporate cards, expenses, bills, and procurement, building reliable systems that operate at scale.

You’ll own end-to-end backend services, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, Risk, and Compliance while aligning with Airwallex’s financial platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field required.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with technical leadership.
• Proven experience architecting and scaling backend systems and APIs.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems.
• Expertise in Java/Kotlin/Go/Python and REST API design with Spring Boot.
• Experience with cloud infra (AWS/GCP) and Kubernetes; focus on quality and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and evolution of backend systems powering Spend products.
• Drive cross-team initiatives and set long-term engineering strategy for scalable workflows.
• Own backend services end-to-end from discovery to deployment and maintenance.
• Raise the bar on system design, API quality, testing, reliability, and performance.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with Product, Design, Infrastructure, Risk, and Compliance.
