Job summary

UTAC Singapore is looking for a Senior Associate Engineer – Equipment Engineering (R&D SMT) to set up and optimize SMT equipment for prototype and new product development. You will collaborate closely with R&D, process, and product engineering teams to enable flexible, accurate, and timely build execution.

You will prepare machines for trials, configure lines for experimental builds, and provide hands-on support during engineering builds.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering is required.
• 2–5 years of experience in SMT equipment engineering, NP I, or R&D support.
• Hands-on experience with SMT equipment and line changeovers is preferred.
• Knowledge of SPI/AOI systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Set up SMT equipment to support R&D, prototype builds and validation runs.
• Prepare machines for new product trials, including program setup, feeder prep and line configuration.
• Provide hands-on support during engineering builds and troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Collaborate with R&D and Process Engineers to optimize equipment setups and run process trials.
• Document setup configurations and learnings from development builds.

Job Summary

The Associate Engineer – Equipment Engineering (R&D SMT) supports research, development, and engineering builds by setting up and optimizing SMT equipment for prototype and new product development. This role focuses on enabling flexible, accurate, and timely build execution while working closely with R&D, process, and product engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up SMT equipment to support R&D activities, prototype builds, and engineering validation runs
• Prepare machines for new product trials, including:
  • Program setup and verification
  • Feeder preparation and component validation
  • Line configuration for experimental builds
• Provide hands‑on support during engineering builds
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement solutions to support fast‑paced development cycles
• Collaborate with R&D and Process Engineers to:
  • Optimize equipment setup for new designs
  • Support process trials and experiments
• Perform product changeovers and ensure setup accuracy for low‑volume, high‑mix environments
• Maintain SMT equipment in a ready and flexible state for frequent build changes
• Support equipment evaluation, trials, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Document setup configurations, learnings, and best practices from development builds

Requirements

• Minimum Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or related discipline.
• 2–5 years of experience in SMT equipment engineering, NPI, or R&D support
• Experience supporting engineering builds or prototype environments preferred
• Hands‑on experience with SMT equipment, including:
  • DEK and GKG solder paste printers
  • Fuji chip shooter / placement machines
  • BTU reflow ovens
• Strong understanding of:
  • Equipment setup and changeover
  • Troubleshooting during build execution
• Familiarity with SPI and AOI systems is an advantage
• Strong problem‑solving skills in dynamic and fast‑changing environments
• Flexibility and adaptability to support frequent engineering changes
• Good communication and teamwork with R&D and cross‑functional teams
• Hands‑on, proactive, and detail‑oriented approach
• Experience in R&D, prototyping, or NPI environments, exposure to high‑mix, low‑volume manufacturing and knowledge of SMT processes and quality considerations is preferred
